Chaos resist in Cruel and Merciless

How much do you have? I currently only have 7% Resist in cruel and its pretty devastating. Is there specific pieces of gear to look for Chaos Res. on? Is it available to roll on all gear types?
I had -60% as a melee marauder in maps and did just fine as long as you play smart and have some hp you'll be fine. Then I alched these so it made it even more easy.

I've found that chaos resistance is only worth aiming for if you have all your other resists maxed.

It's a lot easier to get 30% added to your fire resists then to your chaos, and having 30% fire over 9% chaos is going to be a lot more helpful.

That being said, the most I've had going in merciless was like 6%, and that was because I was stacking it for the sewers. I always work on maxing out my other resists first; the chaos comes later.
Agreed.

First comes elemental resist to the max.

Use Amethyst Flask for dire situations (Poison Archers, Alchemist Bombs, Viper Strike) and slowly build Chaos resist later on.

on my ranger I had 30+chaos resist for mapping and was fine through lvl 75 map solo.
Completed the game 3 times with -60 Chaos resistance. It is not an issue at all until some of the higher level maps (one boss in particular). Very few monsters do chaos damage the ones I can think of off hand are:

Spiders with Viper Strike - Simply avoid letting them stack it on you, if you have a low health pool run around and let the debuff wear off after 2 stacks, higher health pools can manage 3 stacks.

Constructs - 50% of their damage is Chaos the other is Physical, these however are extremely weak monsters and can be killed easily, they are always found indoors so can have their line of sight blocked by walls/doorways etc.

Archers with poison arrow - The impact damage is very small on these, however standing in the pool the arrow leaves behind is what does the damage to you, stay mobile and these are no threat.

Undying Alchemists - These have a similar attack to poison arrow, however it is a delayed charge, if you see a green splodge on the floor run away from it before it detonates.

Those snakes that everybody hates - High mobility saves you again.

A reasonable health pool and some awareness of your surroundings are all you need to counteract any chaos damage you will face in game until the endgame high level maps.

Wharf boss I presume.

I've only gone up against the Wharf boss once. The map had an additional 4 projectiles mod too. Was pretty hair raising, but we managed to pull it off. Seriously though, it was spitting poison in ridiculously wide arcs.
I have 75% chaos resist for my Low Life ranger. That's why I've always thought buying Shavronne's wrappings was a complete waste of orbs. Chaos damage doesn't even tickle.
