Cosmetic Effects Drop vs Microtransactions only

I think there should be cosmetic items such as skins and pets that drop naturally in game. Why?

1. It's fun

2. It doesn't affect gameplay

3. It's something else to collect other than uniques

4. It encourages people to buy more cosmetic effects.

In essence it's just another fun item that drops in game. People may even farm certain areas in order to grab it. Of course, the cosmetic drops will be limited, and completely different from purchasable cosmetic effects. I'm also undecided on whether you should be able to trade them or not... but I'm leaning towards no.

What do you guys think?

Considering these are the only way they have of making money from the game, I don't think it's gonna happen.
It's a cool idea but why would they implement something like this in game when they could just stick it on the micro transaction shop and make some money? They've made everything else free of charge so they need to find some way of putting food on the table and I think donations and micro transactions are their method!
Well it's not something they have to do soon. I don't think they should prioritize it either.

It can be for down the line after the soft release open beta period is over.

All I'm saying is I think it'll be fun.

I completely understand that GGG has to put money on the table. This is just another gameplay enhancer that they can look into when they have more resources at their disposal.
If they implement something like this it should be rare and only 1 time use so purchased effects still have the advantage of reclaiming and using it on a different item.
I think that maybe there should be 'drop only' cosmetics if this will ever be implemented. And they would have to be untradable.

Otherwise people who supported the game will feel cheated when they get the exact same effect from hillock that they just bought 5 minutes ago.

The closest that you will see to this will be the fact that uniques can have 'unique' animations. Death's harp is already there, for example.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

To add to this I would prefer some different artwork for some unique items. Maybe not all of them. But some of the new Cowl's looking like leather caps, is a let down.

*Side note - I really wish the Silver Wings was available on my chest armor :P

maybe they could implement unique skins for items.

What I mean is: A normal Item drops but has a extremely low chance that the skin of the item is something you can't get otherwise.

The Item would have normal stats for what it is (normal axe or magic simple robe etc.) and the chance of getting the unique skin would be rarer than a mirror.

You can trade them because they are normal items, but people won't wear them all the time (except if it is a high end item with good stats) Only benefit is, that it looks cool.

Edit: You could compare it to the shiny pokemons in....well, pokemon xD

Oh I like this idea. I can imagine lvl 75 5 links being chaos'd a billion times so you get the skin with your perfect build.:D
