Error "Could not overwrite executable with new patched executable"

Problem started after todays hotfix.

I reinstalled whole game and nothing changed.

I use Windows Vista.

I'm getting this also, no idea what to do. Anyone know how to fix this?

i get this error, too. using windows 7 64bits.

A possible workaround i found out is to rename or delete the client.exe in your PoE folder then you rename your client.tmp to client.exe.

This error is UAC related, if you deactivate the UAC (which is not recommended) it wont happen again.

Iam running without UAC at the momment and now iam getting this error instead




there is a high probability that this is related to my firewall constantly trying to upload the file.
Iam using Comodo Internet Security wich recently started to upload every unknown executable to the "comodo cloud"

WOW, I would not let something UPLOAD all my stuff tp a Cloud.

I wonder if this would also happen if you would right click the Icon and RUN AS ADMIN which is how some other games have to be run on VISTA / WIN7.

But yeah, the UAC would make sense....

Start > Run > Msconfig > Tools > Disable UAC

deinstalled Commodo and the Error is gone.... could have been my fault i will never know

dont recommend deactivating the UaC i know its a pain in the ass sometimes but it is a main feature securing your PC from malicious software.

deactivate it only for diagnostics

I mainly did this thread becouse there was no such thing when i was looking in google for i, so now people will be able to easy find the solution.

1. From todays struggle I found a solution just by redownloading client.exe, using link, which was given to me after few errors by another error connection failure.

2. But! My girl had the same problem and we found out why, you were right guys, this was all becouse comodo antivirus, just unstalled that and everything run smoothly.

It sounds like the UPDATE caused Comodo to see it as a new program..which may mean it needs to be re-authorized internet access.

If so, this is something that can happen with different Firewalls.

I just opened comodo, found the "untrusted" file, plugged it as trusted, and problem solved. simple fix

It's not connected to firewall in comodo, but defense+. Simply turn it off (not comodo, defense+) for a sec to update the game.
