PS4-Can't See or Group with Friends

I feel really stupid. My friend and I both got the game on PS4, but we can't select or find each other to group up.

He's on my friends list.
We're both online.
We're both in the same league.
We're just about the same level.
We're both over level 20.

Since day one we have not been able to team up at all.

When we log in we can see in the upper left corner there is an invite box, but clicking the invite button with X and clicking the dpad button on the controller are both unresponsive.

Nor can either of us see a list of friends or each other's name anywhere.

Once we're logged in and playing the game, we each can see a list of local players, but still no friends list or each other's names anywhere.

I have googled this issue and searched the forums numerous times with no answer. Many people have issues with getting kicked from groups. We can't even get in one. I feel really stupid. Please help.

When u are ingame u can do following.

Press Options button than Dpad. After some time u can invite ur friend through PSN.

Or press PS button and u can sellect join session of ur friend.

Both buggy and the worst i ever seen on PS4. But its working.
