Best item bases

I'm starting to mess around a lot with crafting my own items. I know it may be subjective but I'm having trouble finding out which item bases are the best to use. I'm hoping that someone might know of a list of the best item bases currently, as I've looked everywhere, and or being able to tell me the best bases for 1 hand melee (assuming sword, axe, mace, and elder or shaper). At the very least a point to the right resources would be nice.
Thank you in advance!

For swords, take jewelled foil. It has the best DPS.

In general, look for the highest DPS base for attack-weapons (you know what I mean) and the ones with the highest implicit spelldmg or penetration for spell-weapons.

Check PoE DB for the possible mods:
https://poedb.tw/us/mod.php

Hope that helped.

I'll add that attack speed is more important than anything else in terms of attack bases. Base physical damage is relevant, and enough physical damage can outweigh a higher attack speed, but it's relatively easy to stack "added physical damage to attacks" from other sources (jewelry, gloves, uniques), whereas in contrast, there's only "increased attack speed" to complement "increased physical damage"--the lack of "added attacks per second" in the game (not that I'm saying they should add that, just that it doesn't exist) means that a weapon with 700 dps and 2 attacks per second (350 damage per hit) can naturally outscale a weapon with 720 dps and 1.8 attacks per second (400 damage per hit). Those two weapons in particular break even as soon as you have 100 added damage per hit, for instance.

I'd personally advise you to quit worrying about "best" when "fourth best" provides indistinguishable results. It's often the case that we're talking about a difference of less that 1% and that would only have an effect in one encounter out of 100... and even then you wouldn't notice it.

It's far more important to pay attention to the ilvl of the item which tells the game which affixes can be found on it.

Thank you all for the responses. My main reason for posting this was because of things like, if I want boots with armor, or a chest with armor evasion, it seems relevant to use the base with the highest amount
luckily, this website has a database of all item bases, so you can look yourself:

I don't know all of them, but at least some.

For bows, it's usually Harbinger bow for crit/phys and I think thicket bow or imperial bow for ele. Rarely maraketh bow, for very specific things like certain Caustic Arrow builds.

For axes, siege axe for one handed and vaal axe for two-handed. Try to get them as elder bases, since elder has a suffix on axes that gives culling strike against bleeding enemies AND increased physical damage.

For one handed swords, most go with jewelled foil for the high attack speed and crit, but corsair swords can also yield extremely good results and are easier to roll phys mods on due to strength being part of the requirements.

For two handed swords it's usually exquisite blade, for that crit.

For claws, go with gemini, for mana+life on hit.

That's pretty much all the ones I know. I hope I could help.
I make dumb builds, therefore I am.

Thank you, this is actually really helpful and along the lines of what I was looking for.

you do still have to decide (for weapons) which attributes you want more. For example, in the 1h thrusting sword section:
A jeweled foil has the highest dps and attack speed, while a Harpy Rapier actually has 10% more crit multiplier as an implicit, with similar dps, though lower attack speed.

And a well rolled Spiraled Foil can easily rival the Jeweled Foil.

But basically, the only foils you should ignore are Dragoon Sword (bleed chance implicit, ICK), Tempered Foil (low attack speed and dps), and Vaal Rapier (very low attack speed). The others are all so close that they can all turn into fine weapons.
Keep in mind that synthesis will introduce various different implicit. Can't judge what base item is good now without seeing what implicit the particular item has.
