Winter orb question

Do the projectiles from winter orb naturally pierce? If not, is there a way to get them to pierce? I.e. taking deadeye ascendancy or something?

I have piercing shots on my worbspear shadow for the spears, but I didn't notice a big difference with worb itself. I may be wrong but the projectiles from worb seem to arc and then land in an AoE. Think bombardment rather than bullets.

So in your opinion, would taking the dead eye ascendancy from scion be better spent on another ascendancy?

I really couldn't say. I do know I wouldn't have bothered with the piercing passive nodes were I playing Winter Orb alone rather than using it to channel projectiles that absolutely need piercing.

Note that Winter Orb says it 'pelts nearby enemies'. By this I believe it means it automatically targets things close by, i.e. that you don't need pierce to hit. And since they function like mortars, once they hit an enemy they cause ground AoE, effectively ending the projectile portion of the skill.

So don't take my word for it as gospel but I'm fairly sure piercing is wasted on Winter Orb projectiles.
your logic sounds sound, good deduction, and i greatly appreciate the insight.
I just tested it out with the Pierce support gem. I turned off my heralds and removed all my other support gems to try and isolate what is going on.

The pierce gem lights up and the tooltip says that Winter Orb pierces 2 additional targets.

But it is still really hard to see if anything is different with and without the pierce gem in use.

The AOE of the hit overlaps any enemy that it would be piercing onto.

Does not look worth using.

so probably best to focus on area damage as opposed to pierce.

Wonder what 2 ascendancies for scion would be best, inquis and perhaps elementalist?

Pretty sure WO just targets a ground area and flies to that to explode? I dont think pierce actually would do anything to this, seeing how it is ground targetted and doesnt fly in any straight line.
