Berserker rage and damage over time effects
I started my character with intent of cosplayin doomguy- berserker with point blank tornado shot as a "shotgun". As went to act 5 i grew increasingly dissatisfied with a result. So i look around on a tree and noticed large amount of poison and bleed talents. I changed my gems and talents and was satisfied with a result.
Then it struck me- do this build even benefit from berserker AT ALL? I already have Aspect of Carnage and i assume it also buffs damage over time since it is ALL DAMAGE. Beyond that there is only rage mechanic left. Rage gives attack speed and attack damage. Attack speed is nice but im not sure attack damage buffs bleed and poison. A friend of mine told me that damage is damage and bleed-poison is simply calculated from my total phys-chaos damage on a skill. But i removed projectile bonuses and lost only direct damage but not bleed and poison. I currently use tornado shot+ chance to bleed+ poison+ faster attacks+ GMP+ deadly ailments. Bleeding or Poison are Damage, but they are not Attack Damage.
The four Damage Sources are Attack Damage, Spell Damage, Damage over Time, and Secondary damage. Every instance of damage has exactly one of these sources. And modifiers to one source of damage do not affect damage of other sources, unless something explicitly says otherwise (e.g. Scorching Ray). " Damage ailments used to scale off attack damage, in an effect known as "double dipping", where your one attack damage modifier affects both the attack damage and the ailement damage. They nerfed that and now the ailments only scale off base damage, before any damage increase modifiers. So no, attack damage doesn't scale your poison/bleed. Either you focus on ailments and your attacks are neglegible or vice versa. Besides, you are better off scaling only one type of ailment, since scaling both bleed and poison stretch the resource too much. Marauder is not a good class to scale bleed/poison in general. Check this out. Its not perfect but i dont feel like leveling new character again. Hybrid physical+bleed. Im going to use it with lioneye's bow, hence the lack of accuracy or RT.
