Things XBoxers should know.

I think, as XBox players, we need to pay attention to some differences between PC and XBox versions. I don't mean that there are substantive game differences - There are not. However, there are differences in one's experience of gameplay and things that we need to know in order to have the best experience possible.

So, post your own observations, tips, warnings, etc, and help your fellow XBox players!

My own observations:

Play on a wired connection whenever possible.

Pay attention to your connection quality and bandwidth. PoE needs a good connection, as it's in near-constant contact with servers. Failures and connection issues can result in frequent disconnects and rubber-banding.

The XBox One "X" may give some significant performance increases. But, it is not necessary for good performance. One can also get significantly decreased loading times by using an external flash drive and installing the game, there. That is also not entirely necessary for good overall performance.

An XBox Elite Controller will be of some help when using potions, thanks to the extra paddles which can be assigned to them so you don't have to rely on the d-pad. See the Tech Support FAQ to configure this appropriately. (Disable hair-trigger)

Knockback is "bad" as it only compounds issues that can occur with mob placement, rubberbanding of mobs, etc, especially when paired with connection issues.

Dynamic resolution is to be expected. (Pixelation during high-load rendering activity) Plan for this - Don't open Breaches when surrounded by mobs from an Abyss or you will have a bad time...

Certain abilities that are intended to make use of user-directed targeting may sometimes be difficult to use. (Totems, etc) However, G3 has added some additional controls for more precise manual targeting for those, so use them when able. Otherwise, get used to predicting their behavior.

On the Market and its impact:

The Market on XBox, while being much more convenient in how items are traded than the PC version, is much smaller on XBox, right now. This means that rare Unique Items or Unique Items that only come from high-level encounters will be significantly more rare in the Marketplace than they might be on the PC version. It takes some measure of experience, but you should examine any proposed build for the dependence on such high-value items in order to determine whether or not that build is easily achievable on the XBox.

The most compatible sorts of builds between PC and XBox will include multiple choices for gear, not strictly relying on very rare Unique items. When in doubt, look up the Unique items on the Wiki and on poe.trade in order to judge how likely it may be they'll be easily obtainable in the XBox marketplace. You can not count on finding some of these items, yourself, since even getting to the encounters which they drop may include having the item to begin with.

Good choices for pre-built builds are "League Starter" builds. If you plan on choosing a specialized build, you may need to also plan to support that build with another, like a Lab Famer/Map Farmer/League Starter, until you get the gear you need for that specialized build.

Movement skills are great, but quick, repeated, use may result in rubber-banding as the server/console struggle to sync. This isn't, AFAIK, limited to XBox, but is a general issue. Just be aware of it.

Item Pricing varies widely from the PC version in XBox's marketplace. One should expect prices to be 1.5 to 2x or more higher than in the PC market. Price manipulation can have even greater effect, due to lower availability of items. Check the marketplace frequently, as reasonably priced items get sold very quickly. Also use the forums or online XBox communities to look for critical Uniques.

Don't feed the Market Trolls! If someone is selling a three-socket Belly of the Beast for 15 ex... Just don't feed them. Understand your chosen build, as best you can, and what it truly "has to have."

When replying to a trade, be sure to cancel if it did not meet your sale price but after you have typed your reply. This will still send your response message, instead of giving away a 6L white chest for a chance orb when asked "price?" (sorry to whomever I bought this from last league).

Also when trading, don't spam the seller just because they didn't accept the second you put it in. Most people I play with will reject the sale because you were too impatient (talking mainly 2c or less trades).

Having your A button blank will help you more in the long run. Sure you will loose an active skill slot, but interaction with anything requires the A button. Ever try to open a chest but there is that 1 mob just offscreen and your guy just sits there and attacks? Give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Go through your options! There are quite a few things that will help you like: always show sockets, show full item descriptions, hide ally health bars (specially with minions), etc...

Something Corrison reminded me of:

You can bid on an item without having the currency currently on your character to put into the bid window. This often happens when you're searching for an item and find one, want to bid on it, but need to get the currency out of your Stash, first. The solution is simple: Click on the item to Submit a Bid on it, then back-out of the menu. Go to your Stash, get the currency you need to use for your bid, then open up the Marketplace window again. Under submitted bids, your open bid will be waiting there for you to put the currency in the window. Do that and then Submit your bid. IIRC, you can have up to 10 (as of recently) open bid windows like this.

Do not make pixel heavy builds, they might end up being unplayable in late game.
Molten strike builds seem to be like this atleast on my console.

There is no social side on this game for most.
Only communication with other players is the odd trade message.

Be VERY careful with gear you are identifying/crafting/selling. One too many A button press and you might destroy something valuable.
I managed to scour my main ring when crafting another one.

Try to get in a situation where you can use strickt loot filter.
Looting is a pain an the more stuff you have on the ground the worse it gets.

Overall, accept that poe in xbox is a more casual experience.
Relax and have fun
Also if i may add. Dont be afraid to try hardcore game modes. Hardcore can be a very fun and fulfilling experience and is completely viable on xbox. Alot of the trade/economic issues that exist on softcore do not effect the hardcore version as currency carries a much higher value that somewhat helps counter the inflation effect of having a small player base. The community in general is very small but is very social.
Any Looking for group post for help will most certainly get you a response from me or another of the more experience hardcore players. Dying does not delete your character and infact transfers it to standard league. So if you normally play non-season there is little risk involved. Personally i am completely addicted. The adrenaline rush you get from playing in hardcore can be a very overwhelming experience. Not everyone will enjoy it but give it a try. You might just get hooked. 😁

The XBox One "X" may give some significant performance increases. But, it is not necessary for good performance.

That realy depends on your build. I played a CoC Build with Frostbolt and Freezing Pulse and sometimes i had 1 fps. And NO that's no exxageration by me. I had literally one frame every second. That's fucking "unplayable" respectively you have to expect to die without being able to do anything to prevent it.

Futhermore pay attention to identifying and selling items. It happend to me more than once that i accidently equipped a item which didn't need any identifiction and sold my valuable item at the vendor...

That can be true. It is not, however, always "absolutely" true. I've played similar builds and have been playing a Wild Strike/Molten Strike build in the Flashback League. The screen is often filled with particle effects. In Abyss, I played a build similar to yours, with frost explosions everywhere. (Frostblades, etc)

When I had FPS issues, it was usually in very large packs like one finds in Breaches and Abyssal Rifts. In the Flashback League, with all the deadly things capable of spawning, the problem can be compounded, especially with overlapping Abyssal/Breach/Perando's/Otherworldly/etc... That's a death sentence. :)

But, when I fixed my connection issues and had much better bandwidth, these problems were not as severe. FPS and Dynamic Resolution issues still occur, but it's likely only marginally more than what PC players routinely complain about for the PC version.

That being said - Yes, abilities with lots of flashy effects, especially those that can hit many mobs at once, can cause some more issues on the standard XBox. But, it's not just the regular XBox that is at fault as every single action must be checked by the server and that can be problematic if one has a bad connection and low bandwidth.

Only cared about the item base, was doing some essence crafting. But even it being 6L white I was expecting a 3ex plus price reply...

Getting to maps you will notice it more. But mainly when you get more mob density (like breaches or abyss), or more people, or lots of animated spells at once (like CWC Scorching ray with Firestorm); you will have some bad frame drops. I have run X1X with and w/o external SSD and have not noticed much of a difference.
