Animate Guardian and "Special Auras"
If I equip Animate Guardian with Leer Cast and Dying Breath, the Guardian casts two "special auras". These are obviously non-curse auras, so my question is: does the 18% non-curse aura effectiveness bonus on DB apply here? Will I and my allies/minions gain 33% or 39% increased damage?
(The Guardian will gain less obviously since Dying Breath's special aura does not affect the aura caster himself, unlike Leer Cast's special aura... but who cares? ;) Dernière édition par tomay#5509, le 24 mars 2018 à 10:20:50 Dernier bump le 24 mars 2018 à 14:43:23

Aura Effect specifically applies to "Auras you Cast". A passive Aura is never Cast, it is simply active.

Not quite following you here, Viper... an aura has to be cast and then it's active. Whether it's Purity or Hatred, doesn't matter, right? So does that mean one has to repeatedly recast an aura in order to benefit from DB's bonus? Or does this only apply to certain Vaal auras auras with temporary effect? To which kind of auras does this specifically apply?

If you mean aura effectiveness doesn't apply to special auras granted by an item then why does it apply to Death Aura on Death's Oath?
" This aura can't be cast either, right? Dernière édition par tomay#5509, le 24 mars 2018 à 11:08:26

Death Aura is unique in that it automatically triggers, but counts as being Cast (GGG bending the rules again). Notable also, it's a separate Skill granted to your character, as opposed to being a passive Aura on an item.
Hatred needs to be Cast before it is active; you have Cast it, it benefits from Auras you Cast. Leer Cast is always active. Similar to Leer Cast, the bonus Armour/ES from the Guardian's passive does not scale with Aura Effect, because it too is a passive Aura. Vaal Auras are also Cast, of course. That is how you activate a Spell after all. :) Dernière édition par Vipermagi#0984, le 24 mars 2018 à 13:02:23

Despite what the wiki says, are we actually sure that "nearby allies gain X" is an Aura? Or even if it is a Skill? Do you think it should be supportable by support gems socketed in the item?
Death Aura is specifically a skill, and it is reasonable to assume it has the "aura" keyword. Thus aura bonuses naturally work with it. However I am not sure whether the effects of Leer Cast/Dying Breath even fall into this category. I don't think the problem is the "you Cast" part. I think that "nearby X gain Y" is simply not a Skill, thus it fundamentally can not be an Aura and affected by aura modifiers. This is just my interpretation of the wordings; I don't have any dev quotes or anything to back it up. But it seems to be consistent with in-game mechanics without having to invoke a bunch of special cases. Dernière édition par Abdiel_Kavash#5296, le 24 mars 2018 à 13:10:25

" Well, originally it was assumed that these modifiers would not affect Death Aura for it cannot be cast, it was only later confirmed by some GGG staffer on reddit that they do indeed affect this aura. Maybe I should try this reddit thingy since their team don't seem to care much about questions asked in their own forum... ;) Dernière édition par tomay#5509, le 24 mars 2018 à 13:28:44

Mark commenting on the Champion Aura, noting that it is an Aura, but is neither a Skill nor an 'Aura you Cast' (with emphasis on 'you Cast').
An Aura is a radial effect that applies Buffs or Debuffs to specific targets in range. Hatred is an Aura. Guardian/Champion passives are an Aura. Dernière édition par Vipermagi#0984, le 24 mars 2018 à 13:30:48

" It originally wasn't an aura. It got changed to be an aura in 3.0, and was correctly affected by aura bonuses since then. " The devs can't possibly monitor every single thread here and waste their time every time someone can't tell the difference between increased and more. They have a - you know - game to develop. Just because you don't get an answer from Mark within three hours of making your post (at 6 AM on a Saturday in NZ) doesn't mean the devs don't care. Game mechanics don't work by popular vote, getting a second opinion doesn't change how the game actually works. Dernière édition par Abdiel_Kavash#5296, le 24 mars 2018 à 13:36:03

They seem to monitor the redit tho... and yes, it may have been a bit sarcastic. ;)
