Support for high attack speed builds.

The biggest philosophy behind POE is essentially "build how you want to build". However, I have struggled to find a good attack speed build with interesting mechanics. I will provide some examples: Faster attacks mean smaller attacks -> need to use elemental damage as not curved resistance. Frenzy is THE attack speed skill due to many bonuses to attack speed -> has a bonus to physical damage. AOE: Biggest struggle for true single target skills (except molten streike). Minimal skills to proliferate damage for skills that focus on attack speed - as most have cooldowns. Suggestion: Fated Fidelitas' Spike Jagged Foil (Or other unique) Mod: Melee single target skills cast level X zap (mini arc) to a nearby enemy on hit. Limitations: Have a low cooldown so cannot work with each hit of ancestral call, but could work with multistrike. Melee tag would stop it working with spectral throw or molten strike's projectiles. Single target (like ancestral call) would stop use with cyclone or blade flurry. This could be added to a support gem, however, without attack speed secondary effect would unlikely to be competitive. Why does faster attacks mean smaller attacks? Unless you mean that weapons with higher intrinsic attack speeds have lower damage, maybe?
Anyway, other than being a "cast when attacking" version of the Arc spell, how is your proposal any different to the Melee Splash gem, which makes a single target AoE? |

If you invest more heavily in attack speed for DPS, you, in turn, have to invest less into damage modifiers. We only have a certain number of passive points to invest.
As for melee splash: (very valid point) - takes a gem slot (in most cases) - is the only real option for single target - it becomes almost mandatory - on a personal note - it is not very interesting. My main aim is to encourage more variation and options. It could encourage more use of single target melee skills. |

as far as im aware mobs actually have an extremely small amount of armour right? Would need confirmation on that but I was under the impression that even on an insanely fast attack speed melee build the amount of physical damage youre doing per hit absolutely obliterates monster armour to the point where it essentially doesnt exist.

this game if anything supports high attack speed builds. there is like 0 benefits to low attack speed and low attack speed bases are filtered out for a reason
attack speed == movement speed is one of the reasons. the other one is flat damage scaling - the same 10-20 phys damage means little for 1.15 mace and quite a lot for 2.01aps foil |
