failed to uncompress this, failed to uncompress that ...

Hi,

For the last couple of days I keep getting error messages, sometimes when I'm in the middle of a map walking to a certain location, where some texture files "fail to uncompress", sometimes in loading screens when entering new instances. Today it keeps happening right at the login-screen when I start the client. I usually try to run a packcheck first, which takes like 15min for my pc. Sometimes this fixes the problem, sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't help I do the whole steam-validating thing via the steam-client. This leads to Steam downloading 8,5gb (almost the entire game) which takes 3 hours for me.
So, this would be kind of acceptable if it happened once a week or something. Still would be annoying, but ok. But now it seems like I literally have to download the whole thing at least once a day. Again, this takes 3 hours every time.
It's always kind of the same error. Mostly it says "failed to compress texture file" bla bla bla. Sometimes just "failed to compress file" this and that. The files vary, but it seems pretty much the same to me.
From the posts here in the Forum I get that many people have had this problem, but it always seems to have been fixed either via the packcheck or redownloading the game. Is this really the only solution? I'd rather have some means to prevent this from happening in the first place. I'm not willing to download the whole 8,5gb every day over and over again and then get the next error after 1hour of playing the game.
I really hope someone has a better solution. Meanwhile I'm redownloading the standalone client again and keep telling myself this is gonna be the last time o_O

If you have downloaded the game through steam, never run packcheck.exe. Use the Verify local files... feature in Steam, which will detect any changes compared to the steam master copy of the files. That contains a copy of the GGPK file that is up to date, and correct.

packcheck.exe will test, and modify, the GGPK file. That will make it "wrong" as far as Steam is concerned, which is why it'll redownload it. Don't do that. :)

If you routinely get corruption, though, something much nastier is going on. It shouldn't happen ever, basically, with steam.

Are you sure that it isn't just exiting and restarting PoE that "fixes" the issue for you? (Which I assume you do prior to running the packcheck, etc)
