I was literally about to make a post about the same issues as this has been happening to me for the past week or so . Randomly I will be able to play the game / make it past the login screen for x amount of time before the crash . The strange part about this is that for some reason its ONLY the login screen that makes my computer crash . I have searched the forums as far back as i could and have tried numerous fixes that have been posted or suggested (ex. audio crashes, windowed modes) I am somewhat computer literate so i have looked to see what is causing this issue to no avail as windows logs do not register the crash as it is not a BSOD . I also have been watching the temp as my computer in no one place is ever over 45 c even right as i crash . The part im having trouble figuring out is that it only crashes right when the login comes up , and say I get past the login screen I went as far as loading up 2 other games as poe was playing just to see if maybe it was my hardware failing somewhere(i have ran all the checks i can think of/saw to run in posts). Im not gonna be one of the ones to say ITS GGG's BAD , SO FIX IT ! as i do not know why this is happening . Maybe op we can figure this out somehow. my system is by no means top tier lets just put that out there but it is well maintained and runs like a champ except this lol . If it was a prob with my say power supply which was the first suspect why wouldn't running it loaded as fuck for a decent period of time like during a prime95 stress test i let run all night long with no crash , it's hard to fathom how much overall computer drainage this login screen causes to make this happen but that is somewhat odd to me ?
The login screen seems to have completely uncapped FPS, which means it can probably generate a lot of GPU load.

Since the symptoms y'all mention are computer crashes and restarts, that makes it likely that this is some sort of hardware or driver related issue, triggered by that login screen doing so many (pointless) frame drawing operations.

Check for hardware issues such as a misseated graphics card, ensure fans work, remove overclocking, and reinstall graphics drivers, any of which may be at the root of this problem.
So far i have tried all the things that you listed , as of today im just going to go buy a new power supply because its honestly the only thing i can think of hardware wise that is causing this to happen(based on all the troubleshooting of my other hardware). I will give an update after I take a trip to frys and have it installed ; maybe if this fixes the prob this can be of some help to op and others with this issue that may have given up . I am almost positive that even tho a power supply has not completely failed yet and still may "work" , it failing can cause issues like this (please correct me if im wrong). Its just crazy to think that the login screen of all damn things can literally take more power then poe , dota2(in a match),ultima online, and 5 chrome pages up , with vnc player playing music . Strange right ?
So it took a couple days to do the swap out due to xmas shit going on , but I can say at least for now it seems the problem was my power supply either failing or not being able to provide enough power at the log in screen (which is strange to me ONLY THE LOGIN SCREEN?!) A little more info I was running only a 500w thermalake power supply but its not like my system was to much for it . Either way it needed to be replaced regardless and was switched out with a 750w corsair supply that was only 45$ bucks which is a steal if you ask me . Hopefully that helps anyone else with THIS specific issue . It may seem strange that every other game you run even ones you may think would draw more power then poe work find but poe crashes right at the login screen; its gonna be a power supply issue or maybe some other hardware thing not anything that GGG can do about it so lets just put that out in the open lol .(THIS issue that is)

I'm so glad you found a solution! and yeah, I guess the login screen is completely uncapped FPS, because the steam FPS meter shoots up to, like, 900+ FPS for me on it. I ... think maybe someone forgot to limit the frame rate there in the placeholder or something.

So, GGG, if you are listening, and I know you are, maybe consider capping that at something reasonable, like "whatever vsync enabled" gives, or 144FPS, or whatever.
Oh i forgot to add also that right before I had stopped being lazy and installed the new power supply , I was able to force launch in dx9 a few times and make it in game but not long into playing i would get a error and game would crash too desktop. So if you desperate maybe that may also help ahaha . And tbh I dont even know if its an fps thing because i was watching everything from fps to volts to cpu & gpu fan speeds n at the time of the hard crashes nothing was noticeable which still has me lightweight mindfucked overall . and just because mine is fixed now im still going to be looking into this more so if you or anyone has updates or hears from tech support(ggg) let us know !
reinstalled my windows 10 in a vain attempt to fix my issue so i doubt its that now, and brought my PC into best buy to test my hardware soooooo........assuming its a software issue somewhere don't know where thou. any advice?

occasionaly i can get past everything and actualy get into the game and evcentualy just hard crash still; oddly

Basically nothing that isn't in the comments above, I'm afraid. If you get a hard crash, something is going wrong badly that something that should be literally impossible for an application to cause happens. (Like, Windows is specifically designed to stop an application causing anything like that.)

The best next step is to go the elimination route: swap components, and see if that fixes the problem. For example, if you have integrated graphics as well as the external GPU, try running on the integrated thing instead. Performance will suck, but if you get no crash you know that it is related to using the external GPU. Keep going until you figure out exactly where the issue is.

This is what Best Buy hopefully did in testing your hardware, but ... maybe they miss something, IDK. :(

Beyond that, I got nothing.
ok so i can load in for a period now using directx11
but the issues arrise when i try to switch zones too many times any suggestions?
