Corpse Explosion Strongboxes need a rework
Im salty. Just lost a high level (85, its high for me!) PHC to a Corpse explosion strongbox. This character was and Essence drain character.
How it went down: 1. Oh hey a strongbox 2. ID'ed the strongbox 3. saw corpse explode affix/suffix w.e it is 4. Noticed there were a lot of bodies around the chest already 5. Triggered strongbox 6. Whirling blades to an area clear of corpses and off screened the entire pack 7. Counted (out loud) to 5 after i heard no movement/enemy sounds 8. Walked closer so that I could see if the strongbox opened. 9. stongbox barely shows up in the corner of my monitor 10. strongbox targets closest corpse to me, as soon as the first pixel of the strongbox shows up on my monitor, chaining to the other 5-15 corpses i thought were far enough away. Killing me This atleast the 10th HC character I have lost to trying to be careful with a corpse explosion strongbox. **How to fix:** 1. Strongbox should have a countdown to corpse explosion chain 2. Corpse Explosion chain should start at the closest corpse to the strongbox (not player) 3. Both 1. and 2. should occur whether my character shares the screen with the box or not No other strongbox damage mechanic has a character targeting mechanism. Dernier bump le 8 janv. 2018 à 18:36:27

" There is no countdown on the corpse explosion, it will trigger if you're within melee range of a corpse, which also has to be within the vicinity of the strongbox. Learn the mechanics before you complain about them ;-). You can carry around a Vaal Detonate Dead for such Strongboxes and bait the explosion by killing a single monster. |

It does need a rework.
It's sloppy and poorly presented. There are many possible visual or audio details GGG could add to improve the encounter: - louder sound when DD activates - sound difference before/after DD triggers (combat music change, danger music, ticking). - visual difference before/after DD triggers (ripples emanating from the box that speed up as it gets closer to triggering, pulsating/vibrating box) - affix list difference before/after DD triggers (text color/size/style change in the box affix list, i.e. detonates corpses could be red until it triggers or disappear after it triggers). - map difference before/after DD triggers - larger view distance or reduced trigger range so you can see the box affix list without being in lethal range Without even one of such details, detonate dead strongbox seems poorly polished, like it's a beta or alpha feature. Never underestimate what the mod community can do for PoE if you sell an offline client.

Only time I died to this was when I hit a lag spike and all the corpses exploded before my Blink Arrow procc'd.

Map difference after / before it triggers ? Well, before: a lot of corpses lyring around it (potentially) - after: a lot of exploded corpses - shocking, I know. ^ You have really low standards for game quality/polish if you think the current implementation is good enough.
"Detonates nearby corpses" is a poor description, since "nearby" isn't precisely defined and in some cases means radius 6, 30, or 70. In the DD strongbox case "nearby" means the entire length of a standard aspect ratio screen distance, maybe more, since it's a vaal detonate dead chain reaction. The detonation trigger is variable. It doesn't detonate the instant you're within line of sight and beside a corpse. There's a delay before it "arms". If you're far enough away for long enough, the box opens. The problem is you don't know if it opened, because the visual/audio feedback is very poor. That's where the encounter needs polish. The presence or absence of exploded corpses is not an appropriate visual indicator. Some monsters and character builds create exploded corpses. And if you want to approach the strongbox to check for exploded corpses, the view distance is not great enough for you to do that safely (and I'm not even sure if exploded corpses are there if the box fizzles and opens after you've been far enough away for long enough). There's too much uncertainty as a result of poor visual/audio feedback, unless you use extreme widescreen (i.e. stretching PoE across 3 monitors lets you see the box outside of threat range). Yes, this is something an experienced player can easily work around. That's no excuse for such a poor implementation.
