For those able to overclock...

I have a high end system I built myself and I've never been too thrilled with the performance of this game when partying or with certain effects on the screen. I know it's beta still and yet to be optimized, but I wanted to do what I could in the meantime. I have an i5 2500k and a GTX 590, and when getting FPS drop in the game, my GPU usage was only 30% or so, which made me figure the burden was on the CPU instead.

So I looked at task manager and saw pretty much only 1 of my 4 cores was being used. I overclocked my CPU to 4 GHZ, which with a lot of Intel chips that have come out in the last year or two is actually pretty easy and stable to achieve. I noticed a dramatic increase in smoothness while partying and doing maps, so I took it a step further and disabled 1 of my 4 cores to give me room to overclock even further, and am currently running the 3 cores stable at 4.4 GHZ, and I'm getting very little lag in the game in pretty much any circumstance.

I know doing all this for a game is kind of a pain and shouldn't be necessary, but if any of you are like me and want to squeeze more performance out of your high end system then consider doing something along the lines that I did. Just wanted to throw this out there as a suggestion, even if it only ends up helping a couple then it'll still have been worth it.
My Phenom II X3 720 can be unlocked to X4. At the same time though, my overclock can't go as high when at X4.

I don't necessarily need more performance with PoE, but I think I'll try out X3 at a higher clock to see if anything changes.

This game and most MMOs do not support SLI / Crossfire.

The game runs great on my I7 980, 12 Gb ram and GTX 670.

As nice as SLI / Xfire is for the games that support it, if your main interest is playing MMOs / RPGs, then getting a dual GPU setup is quite a waste.

This can be confirmed if you open up a program like MSI afterburner and monitor each GPUs usage, plenty of people have already reported that their second GPU sits idle while playing PoE, which does suck for players using extremely high resolutions where a single GPU top end card does not suffice.

This kind of misses the point of my post in which I pointed out the GPU usage is around 30% and not the problem. Also, my GTX 590 is more or less two 580's, one of which should be more than enough to play this game.

I'm also not sure of how much of this game you've experienced, if you play solo or in groups, what abilities you use, etc. On my system, I can play 95% of the game with maxed settings and not lag. It's very specific unoptimized things in the game that cause FPS lost for myself and others, like Void Bears or pretty much anything with multiple projectiles like a Flame Totem with multiple projectiles, etc.

Lastly, SLI does work in PoE. All you need to do is go into nVidia Control Panel and set 'Multi-GPU endering mode' to 'Force alternate frame rendering 2', which essentially divides up the work load and has GPU 1 process half the frames and GPU 2 the other half. It works fine and I've seen both GPU's being used in MSI Afterburner.

So again, my tips were for the people with high end PC's that still have some lag in large groups and when using certain abilities, or when in certain zones like The Docks which have a tendency to cause FPS drop. The ultimate point being is that PoE does a poor job of utilizing multiple cores, and you're better off overclocking a small amount of cores to get better performance.
