Leveling at the docks

hey folks,
how am i supposed to level up at the docks? the mobs are way to tough for me and my damage.
Right now im lv 32 with my shadow and yeah, thats it.
Docks mainly deal fire dmg, is your resist capped for that?
Also what kind of build you run, it is not really specific.
Docks is the easiest leveling area btw.
somehow i created a new account instead of using mine, lol, sorry.
nah, my resistance isnt capped yet (41%). Im using the quest skillgems i got, so there's no real build. Atm im using: doublestrike, reave, frenzy, whirling blades, blood rage, molten strike, leap slam.
Well your skill tree is really messy, you have points which could be removed, because u can reach the desired stuff vithout it.
Ghost reaver makes no sense to have, you have no energy shield nor life leech yet.

I would suggest using some skill that has aoe and a decoy totem to tank for you, but also suggest to see some build to get the main idea between what u should pick in the skill tree.
You dont have dual-wield nodes yet so it would be worth to use a shield in off hand instead.
Also since you are a shadow, dagger and claw nodes are close, would be better to use one of those (claw =more survivability, dagger= more crit)
Also dmg difference between 1h and dual is not noticable in normal, you dont have to commit urself to any weapon type yet but if u want then u should build your way up to those nodes so u can get them later.

You have too many attack skills, pick one you like the most, but from what u have i would pick molten strike, it has reliable singletarget and aoe dmg, whirl blades and leap slam are good for mobility, but nothing else, except for some funny builds.

Or you could grab a cleave if u stay with sword, it has aoe.
For doublestrike and frenzy 2 support gem is really important : multistrike and melee splash for aoe, but u get those muchmuchmuch later.

Or pick one for aoe and one for single target its up to you.

Also u could pick a trap skill for ranged encounters or when u have to kite the mobs, there are a lot types of traps in the game, u dont have to spend node points on traps but they help on low level.

As i said theres no real reason behind this. Just tried to get damage to kill the monsters asap. All the skillgems i got from quests are somehow more or less useless for me. Usually im justing spaming reave and use potions, lol.
Also you could ask for some skill gem in global chat, the community is (mostly) friendly with new players, first char is always the biggest struggle, i had to stop playing my first at level 48 because i could not kill the mobs anymore.

Wish i could give you some low level unique but im using them on a new char now :(
so the best option would be to create a new char?
You can do fine with this, but passive skill tree might be confusing at first sight when you dont really know how the game works.

Also melee builds are quite gear dependent.

Try to get an aurumvorax 1h sword, it gives 50% all resistance, it is practically a very cheap item worth like 1 alchemy orb.

With that maybe u can tank theese fire mobs and progress, could be used in offhand too if u have a better dmg weapon for main hand.

If i were to suggest first char to any1 it would be a totem caster, literally really cheap and not gear dependent, lot player make it magic find because of this (stacking items with item rarity and quantity because they dont need much other stats)

However it might be a boring stuff to use totems only.

You should check some guides, maybe you find some of those which fits ur playstyle.

Btw as far as I experienced the game works somehow like this:
-pick an attack skill gem which will deal your dmg
(make sure to have some kind of aoe built in the build, otherwise u can't clear fast)
-check the passive skills and chose the starting class that is the most optimal for it
(i mean you can make a spell caster duelist or a tank witch too, but you would have to be higher level to use it efficiently also a lot nodes would be only waste)
-however there are builds which only works if u have the core items for it

that could be the true, if you completely trashed your skill tree by the time you're level 60 and in Merciless Difficulty.

in your case however, you should have a few Respec Points from quests, to aim for something like this: CLICK HERE

this is a slightly-modified, very not-optimized version of your current tree - but it should do for now.

and try to get your resistances up, like krenderke said.
