Question about 1h vs 2h
HEy all,
I just hit lv70 with my first character, and now im wondering about 2h vs 1h, currently im running cyclone with dual swords. but its been suggested that i should move to a 2h axe, SO my questions is that it seems to me that the top 2h axe on poe.trade has does 881 dps but the top 1h sword does 564, but dul those would mean 1128dps? to me that seems like a big loss, but im guessing im missing something? Cyclone has you alternate hitting with your weapons. Your dps would just be the average of your two weapons, not the sum. Dual-wielding does grant 20% more physical damage, 10% more attack speed, and some block chance (as an extra bonus granted when you have any two weapons equipped), but a 2hander can still deal more damage.
Also, 2handers have more weapon range, so cyclone would have better aoe. IGN: mopepy

Base Range of Weapons:[1]
Axe, One-Handed: 5 Axe, Two-Handed: 7 Claw: 5 Dagger: 5 Mace, One-Handed: 5 Mace, Two-Handed: 6 Sceptre: 5 Sword, One Handed: 6 Sword, Thrusting One-Handed: 7 Sword, Two Handed: 6 Staff: 6 Unarmed: 4 that table is why. notice that 2h axe has the highest range. range is very very helpful with cyclone. plus highest damage is best since cyclone can be abused by cycloning short distances. cyclone while keeping cursor close to your character gets more dps because of the way cyclone is cast. uses more mana tho since ur casting it more often. tho can u use any wepon you want? sure i dont see why not. use the best u have regardless of wepon type but be aware of the specifics on things. |

Weapon base damage obviously plays a large role in your final DPS but several other factors are also going to influence it.
The most obvious of these will be what nodes in the skill tree you have access to. If you have to go out of your way to pick up 2-handed or dual weild nodes then that may influence your preference. Having a two-hander also opens up access to another potential six-link. Also (not that you will be able to afford either with your first character) the cost of getting two 550dps one-handers is going to be pretty much double the cost of a 800 dps two-hander. However, aiming for any mirrored weapons like that is unrealistic and unnecessary. I have a two-handed axe cyclone character which manages just fine with a 500dps vaal axe for example. |

Ohh i wasnt aware that cyclone alternate hits, and deals the average, so by that measure if i had two max swords even with the damage buff and aps buff itd still be considerably less than a max 2h axe,
i was aware of the range on the various weapons, I guess it's lucky there's a reset coming |

" Not really, the damage/aps bonus from dual wielding is multiplicative and fairly hefty, two 300dps 1H swords are about as strong as a 400dps 2H one even with skills that alternate hits. Most skills alternate, all except Cleave, Dual Strike and Riposte. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
