Playing 2h Melee (Static Strike) in 1msc - my thoughts

I played PoE since closed Beta.
I mostly played stuff like ST, FB, Cyclone and Dualstrike / Melee Splash.

So for this league, i rolled a 2h Melee Static Strike Mace Templar.
I leveled to 68 at this point.

My resumee is that 2h melee is the worst shit ever. I cant describe my feeling, but i have 99 ! Deaths on this character and im dying mapping 66s.
My gear is okay, i have CWDT, a 360 pdps mace, a 5L chest, maxed Resists.

Why i die so often ?
I can tell you way. For Static Strike, unless true "AoE" skils, you need to HIT a target, only then will it trigger the AoE after 0.75 seconds.
What this means is that im usually clicking a monster, my guy swings his mace, but he doesnt connect with the target. Its really funny with ghosts too. I cant kill ghosts 50 % of the time. Cuz they run, and when i swing they run before i hit.

I never really understood all the complains in regards to melee, but now i know what is us.

Flameblast, Cyclone, Arc, Tornado Shot are good. They are good because you dont need to CONNECT with an ectual tarrget.
Anything melee with less than ~1.5 ATS that needs an actual hit is shit.
I have no idea why GGG balanced PvP for months but cant find a suitable fix to this melee mess for, especially for very slow attacking skills.

So, long story short. I "played" 1600 Hours PoE and only know do i realize how BAD 2h TRUE Melee is.
I would like to delete my chara and get my currency to std, but unfortunally i have to wait 3 weeks.
Thank god its only a short league.

Never. Again. True. Melee. Even if Chris says, melee is fixed for 1.4 (haha).

ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it
I'm playing a lvl 48 molten striker - its a lot of fun. I do find that issue somewhat but if its something that fast I use a quicksilver flask.

Leap slam or using other skills should help, I dont know how you can base the viability of a character ONLY off one skill.

2H are nice until you reach act3 merciless... at this point the hell beggins.
I used Static strike only once during a 5min race. From that experience I could predict just what you describe which is why I wouldn't want to build one. I imagine it could work well with fast attack 1-handers though.

2 handers I see that people like ground slam(I never did). My personal favorites are-spectral throw, cyclone and Infernal Blow (but ele reflect is dangerous especially in groups).
I managed to get my 2H static striker to lv 95 in bloodlines.To lv 88,i played RT build with Doomsower,after that i switched to crit hegemony era staff build.At lv 95 i leapslamed into pack of frost bears and i died.Dps(around 75-80k with charges up,without takeing shock and asasin's mark curse in consideration) and survivability(acro,phase acro,atziri step,taste of hate flask,6.8k hp) were really great.Either your build or gear is bad,or you're just bad player(99 deaths at lv 68 lel).

Melee targetting is overall pretty shitty without a lot of attack speed. I decided to try using kaoms primacy on an infernal blow character and more often than not hits just would not connect because the enemies were always moving. If I were to use a skill that didn't require targetting like molten strike, ground slam or spectral throw then it'd be a non-issue, but it sucks to have so many skills being just too finicky and cumbersome to actually work well with slower weapons.

High attack speed and AOE lets you ignore this annoyance, which is why I think a lot of people go for that even if it isn't as strong. And this is all without even considering the huge amount of desync melee gets if you don't hold down the stand still button every time you attack.

2h is all about the weapon and 360dps is something you aim for at lvl 50-55 at 69 you want something 480-500

more dps higherkillspeed less beating from mobs isnt a koams primacy 400+ dps ?

Molten Strike doesn't have the same issue as Static Strike. Like other single target melee skills, you can swing at air with Static Strike, which kind of sucks.
Molten Strike at least still triggers the projectiles when swinging at air, so not too big of a loss.

I have no idea why you are dying that much. Even if you don't trade at all and got to Merciless Dominus, you shouldn't have 99 deaths with a 2 hander. Left side of tree has lots of life and armor.
