Who uses Avatar of Fire?
So the Avatar of Fire keystone is for players who want to do ALL FIRE DAMAGE, ALL THE TIME. That sounds great for a burning build, which could be based on say physical or cold damage instead of fire. The problem is, burning builds are hugely improved by Shock (shocked mobs get hit harder, resulting in stronger ignites and they lose more life for a given burn strength), and it's very hard to use shock on an Avatar of Fire build (unless you use Three Dragons, but then you're not likely to be playing a burning build). In the case of burning builds based on cold spells, it seems Pyre or Three Dragons is a better way to go, and for attack builds it's probably better to leverage Herald of Ash.
So what kind of build actually uses Avatar of Fire in the long term? |

Another advantage of the keystone is that it allows builds that would normally be doing a wide spread of elemental damage to focus on a single element, so they can boost DPS by reducing resists.
Through ele weakness + flammability + penetration gems and passives, you can more than double your tooltip DPS, which is nice because most of these resist reduction effects aren't part of your main link so you don't need a six-link to produce all this damage. I have a discharge build in standard that uses endurance charges and frenzy charges. The cold damage from the frenzy charges shatter corpses, which prevents proliferation burns. Therefore, not only to boost damage, but also to make sure the proliferation happens 100% of the time I use Cold to Fire Gem + Avatar of Fire for 100% of cold damage converted to fire damage.

Ice spear + cold to fire + avatar. You deal so much burn damage already, you don't really need the shock.
Avatar of fire means burning build. Every time. Because if you are going for gimmicky fire damage, why wouldn't you go for burning ? |

Or you could just equip if you want ice damage converted and save a link and a passive.

I have an Infernal Blow build I grabbed Avatar of Fire on. Having 100% of my physical damage converted to fire damage let me get full benefit from both "fire/elemental damage from weapons" mods as well as all the various "physical damage" mods.

Not really using it right now but
AoF + Hrimsorrow + Chernobog's Pillar + Pyre = 100% physical to fire conversion from any source, not just your main skill. Real good for burning Ground Slam... if only there aren't a lot of item slots consumed, and the priority between conversion sources was a bit iffy for me, at least. It's really just subpar atm. :P Better stay in the land of the damned, Exile. Here, even the very words are corrupted by Nightmare.

" The problem with that ring is that enemies shatter when they die. That prevents elemental proliferation to such an extent that is a useless ring for any burn build. |

"they explode if hit (and killed) while burning. not when burned. so it means slow down, if you proliferate. focus on single target skills like ice spear and let the overkill crit damage ignite roll over to foes via prolife. Dernière édition par soul4hdwn#0698, le 30 déc. 2014 à 14:31:11
