Help what's the real cap resist?

So I'm new to this game and i ask some player about resistance and they confuse me both lol

Player A

Max resistance is 75% but u need 90%+ for - negative resistance maps

vs

Player B

Max resistance us 135% Why i ask i thought 75% is max?

He said because of chaos damage 75% max resist + - 60% chaos = 135% total he said




So to all players out there what is the truth? 75% or 135%?

There is a -60% resistance penalty in Merciless. If you're in a Normal area (like your hideout), when you look at your resistances you will see two numbers, the second in parenthesis. The first number is your actual resistance, subject to the cap. The number in parenthesis is how much resistance you have uncapped. If your resistance in your hideout looks like this: 75 (135), that means when you go to Merciless and are subject to the -60 penalty, your numbers will look like this: 75 (75). So that 135 number you heard is how much resistance you need to have 75% in Merciless.

The base cap is 75%. It can be raised higher with passives, items, and flasks, that give + to max resistance. If you are penalized by curses or map mods, that number will be subtracted from the number in parenthesis. If that number is still higher than your cap (default 75), you will still have max resist. That's why you want to overcap your resists so that when you are penalized, you still have the maximum you can get.
