Can anybody tell me how riposte works?

I know that it only works upon blocking without a shield, but i cant find a video or image of its effect anywhere. The gem looks like it only hits one target, but does that target have to be in melee range, or does it work like tempest shield, Hitting the attacker that you blocked?

Hits one target that's in weapon range. You might be able to melee splash it, but I haven't tried.
Using it and Vengeance crashes instances for me, so I'm waiting for a fix before bothering with it more. Reckoning is the best of the three, as I see it. The AOE is quite large, and it even has a shorter cooldown than Riposte. Reckoning can hit ranged, especially if you increase the AOE. Of course, I'm testing it out with a Facebreaker build for the mild novelty. (Shield charge + Melee splash + Facebreaker is nifty too.) it works with melee splash
it deals substantial damage, too. way higher than vengeance for me. 3-4times more) however if not built for block (i have like 35% dual wield block total) it makes little impact on gameplay. and yep, same here - i crash with this char A LOT. but as you mention - it is the only char that has riposte/vengeance combo so it might be it |

I took Vengeance out and put Melee Splash in (linked to Riposte), and I still crash (sometimes) when Riposte triggers. Fun fun.

riposte doesnt work with facebreaker, sadly

Can you use multiple riposte gems? Or will only one trigger.

Multiple Reckoning or Riposte gems would share a cooldown so it's pointless to stack them, but Vengeance has a 30% Chance to Proc, so using a second gem will give you a 51% Chance to Proc.
